Travel & Working / Working in the EU

In 2006, a new law came into force, simplifying the formalities for people and their families to move or live anywhere on EU territory.

For instance, if you stay in another member state for under three months, all you require is a valid UK passport. If you are staying for longer, you will be registered in the host country as long as you have a job or enough money to sustain yourself and comprehensive health insurance. After five years of continuous residence, EU citizens are no longer subject to any conditions on residence and can only be deported in exceptional circumstances.

The EURES network, with its more than 750 advisers and the EURES web portal with job vacancies and practical advice, are available to help you find a job and to prepare your move abroad.
