The development of the Whitecrook Community Centre was a Clydebank Housing Association initiative which represented a major milestone in the regeneration of Whitecrook, considered one of Scotland’s most deprived areas.
Costing over £2.8 million and largely funded with grants from the EU, the Scottish Government and a number of other agencies, the centre was officially opened by Elspeth Attwooll MEP on 11th July 2008.
The centre focuses on assisting residents to gain skills, qualifications and experience so they can move out of the benefits trap and into work. It will also provide a range of activities to engage with young people, reduce anti social behaviour and increase the capacity of the Whitecrook and wider Clydebank communities.
Future plans include a toy library and a number of social businesses which will provide both training and employment to residents.
