A Fair Deal for Consumers / Fair Airline Ticket Pricing

Ever seen a flight advertised for a few pounds to find, later on in the booking process, the final amount is far higher? Or heard about a website that offers far lower ticket prices depending on which country you make the booking in for exactly the same journey?

An EU regulation in force since November 2008 bans price differences based on the purchaser’s place of residence or nationality and ensures all prices quoted are all-inclusive, so the first price you see should be the final price you pay.

In 2007, the European Commission conducted a sweep check to expose misleading advertising and unfair practices on websites selling airline tickets in 16 countries.

One in three were found to have an irregularity. The offending airlines, tour operators and price comparison sites were ordered to put their house in order and 90% have now done so. A report is issued every year in order to step up enforcement of these regulations.
